Save Your Tape and Tack with UHU
by Candace D. Fenander

If you hate seeing a lot of tape hit the trash bin whenever you’re through with a painting, or just don’t like the way it sometimes takes some of your pastel paper with it, when you pull it off, you might want to try this alternative. Use “UHU”, a removable putty-like substance often sold in hardware sections. It is not unlike a kneaded eraser, except that it is slightly stickier and is used to hang light objects on walls or refrigerators.

Just place a thin strip of uhu near the edges of three or four sides on the back of your paper. Turn the paper over and gently press the paper onto your support board. When you are finished with the painting, remove the paper from your support board by carefully lifting it at the points where you put the uhu. Then pull or roll off the uhu.

This tacking method is best done with small paintings, where handling is easy.
